I’ve always been obsessed with portrait drawing and painting. There’s something so magical about letting a face emerge from layers of color and texture. Over the years, I’ve explored different ways to bring portraits to life, from expressive mark-making to rich, textured layers.

In this in-depth class, I’ll guide you through my process, whether you’re working with oils & cold wax medium or acrylics & Powerwax.

Cold Wax Medium vs. Powerwax – What’s the Difference?

  Both Cold Wax Medium (for oils) and Powerwax (for acrylics) allow you to create beautiful, layered textures, but they work in different ways:  

🖌️ Cold Wax Medium (for oils) – A soft, buttery medium mixed with oil paints to create rich textures and a matte finish. Since it contains solvents, it cannot be used with acrylics.  

🎨 Powerwax (for acrylics) – A water-based wax that works with acrylic paints, offering a similar texture and layering process to cold wax but without solvents. This makes it a great option for artists who prefer working with water-based materials. You can buy the Powerwax here
