Paintwhat you feel, not what you see
I'm Marina. I teach expressive, textured painting: faces, figures and flowers in colours that were never there. In cold wax, oils and acrylics, from my studio in France.

Explore Layers, Texture and Creative Freedom
My paintings are built in layers. I put paint on, scrape it back, lose passages I loved and find better ones underneath. And I stopped painting the colours reality asks for a long time ago. Skin does not have to be skin coloured, and tomatoes do not have to be red. That freedom is what I teach.
In my classes, we paint together, step by step, but there is always room to see where the painting takes you. Some projects use cold wax and oils, the slow, buttery medium my work grew up in. Others use textured acrylics, creating those same layered, tactile surfaces with materials you may already have.
You do not need to know which medium is right for you, and you certainly do not need years of experience. Come curious, experiment, scrape things back, and see what happens.
Upcoming Membership:The Texture Lab
The Texture Lab is the membership I have been dreaming of: a warm, inspiring place where we paint together, explore new techniques, and keep your art practice moving.
Most of the content explores cold wax and oils, the medium that started it all for me, but we also experiment with acrylics, mixed media, textures, and layered painting techniques.
It's a space to explore, experiment, and enjoy the process of painting together.

I'm Marina,your guide toTextured Painting
I'm so happy you found your way to my little corner of the internet. I'm a Dutch artist living in the South of France with my family and our lovely dog, Tessa.
For many years my work has centered around painting with cold wax and oils, a medium that completely changed the way I paint. I love building layers, scraping paint, and discovering what appears on the surface.
These days I'm also exploring textured painting with acrylics and mixed media, always with the same curiosity for layers, marks, and unexpected discoveries.
Whether you're here for my paintings or my classes, I hope you enjoy exploring.

Small, quick, and endlessly repeatable. You build a textured surface first, then let a little bouquet appear out of it, so there is no pressure to draw a flower.
The class is filmed in acrylics with texture medium, but the process is exactly the same in cold wax and oils. Nothing changes except the paint on your palette, so paint along in whichever you already use.

ExploreMy Art
My art is based on Wabi-Sabi, the beautiful philosophy that finds beauty in imperfection. I rarely know the subject when I begin: I build up the layers, follow my intuition, and wait for a face or a flower to appear. The history of all those layers shows through in the finished painting.
Love Notes from my Students
“Best class I've ever taken, and that's a lot of classes. It totally changed the way I approach cold wax work.”
“Colour is the one thing I'd been struggling with. I tried to learn from various artists but they were too complicated. Marina has uncomplicated it for me.”
“Just finished my first cold wax painting ever. I haven't painted since high school, which was many decades ago. I am newly inspired.”

Combining Delaminating Alcohol Inks, Cold Wax and OIls
Experimenting with Kamenskaya Delaminating Inks on Cold Wax and Oils I made a new YouTube video about experimenting with Kamenskaya delaminating alcohol inks on a cold wax and oil background, and I have to say: I was very positively surprised by the results!
