Do your colour mixes sometimes turn muddy, and you are not sure why?
I still remember painting blue tomatoes for the first time while my head kept telling me they should be red. Learning how colour works helped me stop copying reality and trust the colours that felt right.
In this bootcamp, we look at five colour themes through a series of practical exercises: the colour wheel, value, opacity, temperature, and mixing and matching. Use the paints you already have, whether you work in oils, acrylics or watercolours.

Five colour themes
Learn by mixing, comparing and making notes
Each module gives you small exercises to try with your own paints. The aim is to understand what happens on your palette, not to memorise lots of theory.

Colour Value
Mix value scales from light to dark and train your eye to notice how much light a colour carries.

Colour Opacity
Test which paints are transparent or opaque and see how they behave in layers.

Compare warm and cool colours, then mix greens with different yellows and blues.

I'm Marina, a Dutch artist living in the South of France. Colour is often where a painting begins for me. I do not use it to copy exactly what I see. I use it to create a feeling. In this class, I will help you get to know the paints you already own, so you can make colour choices that feel more like your own.
