Flower, colour and pastel inspiration for the online class

Free Online Class · Acrylics & Texture Medium

Let’s loosen up and let the flowers appear.

Come and create a joyful, textured flower painting with acrylics and Powerwax or a heavy gel medium. I’ll guide you through every step.

We’ll build a lively abstract background, layer colour, then use negative painting to find the flowers hiding inside it. You don’t need to draw them first.

The goal is never to copy my painting. It is to find your own way of making it.

You’ll need Powerwax or a heavy gel medium for this project. If you’d like to use Powerwax, you can find a supplier here.

My 3-step method

This is what we'll do together

Three simple stages, with everything explained as we go.

Build the texture
01

Build the texture

We mix Powerwax or a heavy gel medium into the acrylics and create rich, textured first layers. It may not look like flowers yet, and that is exactly where the fun begins.

Layer the colour
02

Layer the colour

We add beautiful colour, letting each layer respond to the one underneath as the painting begins to come alive.

Find the flowers
03

Find the flowers

Using negative painting, we bring the flowers forward from the background. No careful drawing: the shapes grow naturally from the layers you have already made.

Look what you can create

Student work

This is what I love about a layered process: everyone begins with the same steps, yet no two paintings look alike.

Marina Teding van Berkhout

Artist & instructor

I’m Marina, a Dutch professional artist living in the south of France. I began with oils and cold wax, then went looking for a way acrylic painters could enjoy that same freedom of layering, scraping and discovering. Powerwax opened that door for me, and I can’t wait to share the process with you.

Questions?

Frequently asked

Is this really free?+

Yes. This is the complete class, not a shortened taster. You can enjoy every lesson free for 15 days. There is no card, no hidden cost and no automatic subscription.

Do I need any experience?+

Not at all. We begin with texture and colour, not a careful drawing, and I guide you through every step. Come curious and paint with me.

Is this class just for acrylics?+

Yes, this class is designed for acrylics. You can use Powerwax or a heavy gel medium; both suit the water-based materials and quick-drying process we use.
